 ROBERTSON PARK

Location
The park is less than 2 km /  1.2 miles northwest from the middle of Perth city (GPO), Western Australia.

The Robertson Park Artists Studio is on the city side of the park, in the middle of the open lawn,  between the renovated house (opposite the  Carr and Fitzgerald Streets corner) and the WA Veteran Tennis Club's tennis courts (in the  northwest corner of the park).

Indigenous Significance
Robertson Park / Lake Henderson / Boo’joormeup / Boojoormeup has been, and still is, a gathering place for the Noongar People.

Recent History
Robertson Park is also part of a series of wetlands through the city which are both part of a walking tail and connected by an underground drain system.

In 2021 the City of Vincent started a community consultation process as part of a process to reorganise / rejuvenate the park.  Contact the City for an update.

In 2004 the Town of Vincent spent $500,000 on improving the Park, with new trees, gardens, paths, lighting, public art, seating and a winter lake, which is in the southeast corner of the park.

A Green Belt
"W.E. Bold, City of Perth Town Clerk (1901-44) proposed a ‘green belt’ around the city.  On his recommendation, from 1913, the City purchased and reclaimed the inner city market gardens for conversion to parks and reserves, including land for the future Robertson Park...    Some of the land continued to be leased to Chinese market gardeners through into the late 1920s, and the stables and dwelling also remained for some years."
