Carol Rowling 2018 has been a very exciting year, I held my 1st Solo show in April/May in the Engine Room at Turner Gallery in Northbridge, and then in November I travelled to Singapore for the Affordable Art Fair held in the Formula 1 building. At present I am working on my next Solo to be held in Collie at the Collie Art Gallery. Opening night is the 21st December 6pm till 8pm. Exhibition runs through till the 10th February 2019. I was very privileged to be included in The Artists of Perth book this year also. www.carolrowling.com.au |
Graham Hay Exhibitions include Materiality, curated by Greg Sikich at Mundaring Arts Centre, and Staff room, Curtin University & Town of Victoria Park; plus a start made on a practice-led PhD at Curtin University. Invitations to speak included: Edith Cowan and Curtin universities; the Ceramic Study Group and the Sculptors Society (both NSW). Workshops were held with St James Anglican School; Curtin Makerspace; University S. Australia; Sydney Art Space; and in US: Muskegon Community College (MI) and PBS Artist Open Studio (KY). 2018 will see a Peter Held curated international touring exhibition, starting at Arizona State University; and an International ceramic Symposium at Art Ichol, Maihar, India. The popular studio classes continue. www.grahamhay.com.au |
Sarah Marchant Much of the year has been taken up illustrating a second children’s book, “My Welcome Book” with author Diana Smith, being launched in January 2019 as well as taking on an orphan lamb that also had a visit to the studio earlier in the year sparking inspiration for a possible children’s book. In addition to illustrating, Sarah has exhibited and sold across the state including Cossack Art Awards in the Pilbara. She has also been working on developing her work with small circular canvas and board and looking to take it further next year. Painting and Children’s art classes have continued throughout 2018 and will be adding a third painting class starting up in February to meet with demand. Plans for 2019 are to bring the focus back to painting and developing a new body of work incorporating Kimberley wildlife with the ever present Boab tree. www.sarahjanemarchant.com |
Christopher McClelland The highlight of the year was a three month trip to Italy and France involving post-graduate studies at the Florence Art Studio and the Paris Academy of Art. Exhibitions: Studio Art Gallery in Yallingup. Soroptimist International Invitation Exhibition, Fremantle; Fine Art at Hale, Invitation Exhibition; Galvanise, Artsource Invitation Exhibition, Fremantle. www.christophermcclellandartist.com |
Frances Dennis My travels this year through Spain, Portugal, France, Jersey and the south west of the UK on the BMW, as well as in Australia, have resulted in renewed energy for life and painting leading to experiments using wax with the oil paint. Travels also left no time for exhibition this year but three small paintings sold from studio. I’ve also created a body of figurative work out of ceramic paperclay entitled ‘The Old Crock’s Choir’ .. a community of gentlemen of a particular age who get together just because they do, and the joy (or otherwise) of their companionship bursts outwards in song. No plans for 2019 other than to keep on, keeping on, making. www.francesdennis.com |
Bethamy Linton
2018 has been grand! My focus for most of this year has been the development of my solo exhibition, Inheritance, which showed at Gallows Gallery in November. As well as art pieces, this included a new collection of Linton Silver which I look forward to promoting and producing in the coming year. In addition I have been thrilled to have work showing in the Art Gallery of W.A. with Beyond Bling (open until January 19, 2019) and To Have and To Hold at the Art Gallery of South Australia. I am truly honoured that AGSA and AGWA have both acquired my exhibited work into their permanent collections. Finally, I started private jewellery making classes at Robertson Park this year, which has been a lovely addition to my practice and I will be continuing in 2019. www.bethamylinton.com |
